Alpine Ski Leader Courses
Ever thought about becoming a qualified ski guide or ski leader? SET run regular Alpine Ski Leader Courses throughout the winter. Here is a brief outline on the Alpine Ski Leader (ASL) training programme.

Objective

train and qualify responsible skiers who are primarily interested in the encouragement of young skiers and who seek to instruct and lead them on behalf of recognised organisations, in the United Kingdom or abroad.

train candidates to a standard of ski instruction and group leadership so as to carry out these tasks locally on artificial slopes, or in commercially developed areas where a ski patrol operates, but not off piste.

present and evaluate candidates in the essential technical elements of skiing, ski instruction, ski methodology and group leadership.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

be at least 18 years of age prior to attending a course

possess the Four Star British Alpine Ski Award or equivalent standard

be a member of the SNSC Coaching Scheme

hold a First Aid Certificate in accordance with SNSC policy ( or gain it after the course )

have an aspiration to introduce non-skiers to the sport or intend to provide this service through schools, clubs or other recognised organisations.


Course Outcomes

To obtain the qualification of Alpine Ski Leader there are four requirements that candidates must display. These must be recorded by the Tutor during the course and are as follows:

A sound basic knowledge of the sport

A versatile skiing ability and the ability to perform all elements within the BASA Four Star

The ability to lead on marked pistes within a recognised ski resort

The ability to introduce skiing to novices and develop the individual skier's ability to perform the basics of skiing and to effectively supervise skiing

Returning: Sunday 23rd December 2007
